Overview

Help to Save is a Government saving scheme to support working people on tax credits and Universal Credit build their savings. 

You can save between £1 and £50 each calendar month. You do not have to pay money in every month.

After two years, you will get a 50% tax-free bonus on your savings and if you continue saving you could get another 50% tax-free bonus after four years. This means you could receive tax-free bonuses worth up to £1,200 to spend how you like.


If you're eligible for a Help to Save account

You can open a Help to Save account if you:

  • are a UK resident
  • receive Working Tax Credit
  • are entitled to Working Tax Credit and receiving Child Tax Credit
  • claim Universal Credit and your household earned £542.88 or more from paid work in your last monthly assessment period

If you get payments as a couple, you and your partner can apply for your own Help to Save accounts.
