Overview

There are three Safer Neighbourhood teams that operate across South Tyneside: They are:

  • Riverside and West Shields
  • Jarrow and Hebburn
  • East Shields and Boldon / Cleadon / Whitburn

Each team consists of a wide range of professionals that have a link to community safety, including Â鶹ÊÓƵ, Northumbria Police, Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service and Â鶹ÊÓƵ Housing Services.

Meetings focus on issues relating to crime, disorder and anti-social behaviour, both in terms of people and places, that require a multi-agency response.

Issues are brought to the attention of the meeting from partner organisations and the area teams act as a conduit for concerns as well as issues raised by councillors and the community.

As well as continuing to be responsible for identifying and responding to local issues, the teams are also responsible for overseeing the geographical based delivery priorities within South Tyneside's Crime and Disorder Partnership Plan.

Each team has now developed an annual action that uses information from a strategic assessment, and other local data provided by partners, to identify local priorities and actions.

Get involved

Residents are invited to meet their Neighbourhood Policing team at Partners and Communities Together (PACT) meetings.

At these meetings you can come along and discuss community issues with your local officers.

The meetings are chaired by the police, and also include partnership agencies.

You can raise issues either as part of the group meeting or individually at the end of the meeting.

You will also have the opportunity to receive crime prevention advice.

Details of your local PACT meetings can be found on the  website.
